What Salts Make You Bloat

Salt... It's good, it's bad... There's so many contradicting studies on salt. One thing that I am 100% certain on is that it tastes freaking delicious! I'll admit, I put salt on almost everything because I'm addicted. Too much salt, isn't great for you that is for sure and has been shown to be true. But I'm young right... But because I love salt so much and want to eat it all the time, I only eat one kind of salt: Himalayan pink salt.

1st Reason:

Growing up I ate iodized salt similar to every other household. Then this new salt started to be the craze that everyone was talking about. It was sea salt. Restaurants, even some fast food places started selling sea salt as an alternative. It was healthy, delicious, etc. In my personal opinion, it hada better taste than iodized salt too!

So the switch for me to sea salt was mainly because it was healthier for you and tasted better. Then, this new "fancy" named salt became the new craze, Himalayan pink sea salt. This salt was said to be even better for you than plain sea salt. So of course, I tried it because why not. The original reason for switching to the Himalayan was to choose a healthier option because I love salt so much!

2nd Reason:

I am obsessed with watching other fitness YouTubers because I love to learn from others and how they do things. One of the videos I was watching was by Heidi Somers (if you've never looked her up, she's pretty awesome!) and she made a comment about white salts. For starters, salt makes you retain water aka hold onto water weight. The more salt you eat the more water retention you will essentially have. This can cause that bloated feeling. Heidi mentioned that white salts make you bloat more than other kinds such as Himalayan pink salt. To me, I was already only using Himalayan by this point & was like "Yeah... Nailed it." When I thought about it, I realized that my fingers and hands had been getting less swollen when I was at dance since switching salts. My hands are the main area that I notice my water retention because my fingers get all puffy and sweaty when I'm being active and getting my blood flowing. So I personally have noticed a difference since I switched.

So maybe you're like me and you have a slight salt addiction. You don't have to completely cut it out of your life. Just like with everything else in life, find ways that you can make small improvements or adjustments for the better. Try switching to sea salt even if you can't stand Himalayan. Try switching to Himalayan if you feel like that's the one for you. There is no right or wrong. If you absolutely love iodized salt, then maybe just try eating a little less on your meals each day. Small improvements over the long term are going to make the biggest changes in your life!
